DSS - Legislation Passed
During my time as Director of DSS EI, I designed, crafted, and advocated for legislation that helped create much-needed fixes to CUA, including:
Resolution 005/041
Shuttle Service 002/041
Resolutions 002/041, Sponsored by Senator Gerige, were built to implement shuttle services on the weekend. Resolution 002 was specifically developed to request a pilot program launch. This program would run over two weekends to judge the viability of a shuttle service coming to campus.
This program ran for 2 weeks in March of 2023, seeing a ridership of 500 students
Resolution 041, Sponsored by Senator Gerige, used the results of the pilot program run through DSS EI to develop a strategy to develop the shuttle system further.
Resolution 008
Resolution to Ensure the Safety and Maintenance of Campus Elevators:
One of the many problems facing students with disabilities is a lack of accessibility on campus. This was explicitly apparent with the maintenance and upkeep of elevators on campus. Resolution 008 set forward a new standard of maintenance for those elevators. Sponsor Anthony Curioso and I sat down with the head of facilities. We worked out a method to promptly fix and maintain elevators in order to establish continued accessibility on campus.
This resolution also put stickers in all campus elevators with QR codes that could be scanned to access the facilities report website.
This resolution has resulted in faster response times to elevator outages and a significant increase in awareness for campus accessibility issues
Resolution 036
a A Resolution to Reform DSS Testing Accommodation Requirements
Resolution 036 is the answer to a problem many students with disabilities face. The mandate from the DSS office made it so students are unable to submit a request for test accommodations after seven days in advance of a test. This made it difficult for those facing pop quizzes and professors who would change test dates routinely. To address this issue, Res 036 promoted the advocacy to change the number of days in advance of a test to 5, giving students a little more leeway to get their federally mandated accommodations.
This Resuolution brought advocacy .for this plan and put a change in how DSS is operated
